Rio de Janeiro is of course, world renowned as a geographic expression
overflowing with sensual delights. Its gay saunas, discos and beaches are
without compare.
I particularly liked a sauna called Studio 64 just off of legendary
Ipanema Beach. Studio 64 is where the most beautiful men in Brazil hang
out. The patrons all look like models. Exquisite faces and spectacular
bodies. None of the guys at Studio 64 are rent boys, or “scorts,” as they
are called in Brazil. What they do is for the sheer pleasure of doing it.
One of the most fun places on the planet has to be Point 202 just off
Copacabana Beach, supposedly a sauna, but in reality what used to be
called a house of ill repute. My Brazilian friends wanted to accompany me
there because they worried that the aggressive hookers would eat meek
little me alive! But I assured them I was a big boy, I knew how to handle
pushy people.
They were right. The hustlers came on to me full force as soon as I walked
in. They were demonstrating their attributes as I was slipping out of my
clothes and stowing them away in my locker.
Two attractive black guys were the first to come on to me. They claimed to
be brothers, and if I didn’t buy that, then they were cousins. They did
look alike enough to be kin. When I sat down on a wooden bench they sat on
either side of me, sandwiching me between them. They tried every trick in
the book to hook me. Each one took the sole of one of their feet and
stroked my legs with it, at the same time stroking my arms with their
hands. It was overwhelming having all that attention directed at me, I was
quickly on sensory overload.
I soon noticed that the other Soiled Doves, that’s a cute pseudonym for
prostitutes used in the 1880 U.S. Census, were trying to upstage the two
working overtime on me. At this early evening hour the rent boys heavily
outnumbered the clients, so my Greenback rich gringo carcass was in
demand.
Three heavily muscled young men began lifting weights right in front of
me, their stiffies protruding from under their snow-white towels.
One delightful, slim 23 year-old boy named Alex told me his parents were
both from Italy. I bought him a Raging Bull Energy Drink. I soon learned
that all rent boys drink Red Bull. They believe it boosts their sexual
energy.
Before long everybody was asking me to buy them a Red Bull, so I splurged
and bought Red Bulls for the entire house.
Alex was my favorite prospective date-for-pay, but somehow I lost track of
him. That’s when 26 year-old muscle-bound Anderson moved in on lonesome
me. He was the perfect lover, affectionate and tender. Holding me,
caressing me and kissing me for hours as I watched the other rent boys.
The handsomest rent boy rolled by on his skateboard!
Others retreated into the porno video room where they gave their own
X-rated shows that rivaled what was on the TV screen.
After we were together for two hours I felt obligated to take Anderson to
my hotel with me. All the other clients had left, he had no other
prospects because he had invested so much time in me. He never had to
point that out to me, but I didn’t want him to lose out.
I believed him when he told me he as trying to raise $2,500 to buy his own
home in a favela, the illegal slums that surround Rio built by squatters.
When we got to my room Anderson and I walked into my bathroom where he
gave me the most powerful wash down I ever had. He really knew his
business. Soaping me up with his powerful hands, running them up my legs,
back and neck. Embracing me passionately and firmly from behind.
He gave me a deep tissue massage in my bed, and I gladly gave him 50
Reales plus 30 more for cab fare.
Point 202 is the perfect place to pick up a rent boy. You and your
possessions are completely safe. The towel boy walks you to your locker
and hands you a couple of towels and a pair of beach thongs. He is always
in the locker room area keeping an eye on the lockers. Anyway the rent
boys are regulars, one has been hustling there ten years. They need to
have a good reputation otherwise the owner will kick them out.
The best time to visit Point 202 is happy hour, from 6 P.M. through 10
P.M. That’s when guys in the surrounding businesses get off work and head
to the sauna before taking the nearby metro home.
Besides the rent boys there’s actual floor shows most days of the week
featuring transvestites and other amusements. One day is Bingo night, and
you guessed it, the prize is a choice rent boy. Rent boys charge a
standard 50 Reales, about $16.50
The Soiled Doves have a friendly rivalry. They obviously want to beat the
rest of the pack to get to the client. That’s the name of the game. But
they have one hell of a time doing it. They slap each other’s butts, swat
each other with towels, joke, laugh and kid around. If you don’t like one
he will introduce you to someone more attuned to your desires.
None of the saunas in Brazil requires membership. You don’t even need to
sign in. You are given a padlock with key and number and everything you
buy inside is charged to your number. You settle your account when you
leave. Prices across the board are way cheaper than back home.
There’s two fine gay beaches in Rio. The most popular of the pair is at
Ipanema. This stretch of sand is very much like Venice Beach in Los
Angeles. Where the buff boys work on their tans and their muscles, and
play four-man Brazilian volleyball, where you can’t use your hands, you
have to hit the ball with your head, feet or body!
The second gay beach is further north at Copacabana and is just as
beautiful. This is where the everyday gays (read over forty), Lesbians,
transsexuals and transvestites congregate to picnic, read and pass the day
with friends.
There’s a nude beach about half an hour south of the city, but the next
beach to that one is infinitely more interesting. Grumari is a surfer’s
paradise. You can watch dozens of young surfers undressing next to their
cars, then carrying their surfboards down to the awaiting Atlantic.
Rio’s first sex club without masquerading as a sauna, Club Gayligola, just
opened. I could write a dozen columns on Naked Rio and barely scratch the
surface of its erotic nature.
BRAZILIAN CUISINE
Food is another delight in Brazil. Churrascos are the all-you-can-eat
barbeque restaurants that are the most prominent feature of Brazilian
cuisine for visitors. A swarm of waiters encircles your table each one
proffering a skewer of succulent meat, which he then gracefully slices
onto your plate. Each handsome young waiter leans over your shoulder with
another cut: baby back ribs, bacon wrapped chicken breast, Prime rib,
sausage, Fillet Mignon?
Even vegetarians can eat hearty at a Churrasco. There’s always an
accompanying buffet, including perhaps a dozen delicious salads, rice and
bean dishes, pasta plates as well as half a dozen sushi choices. Instant
gratification!
I won’t even try and name my favorite Churrasco, there’s so many. Often
two, three, or more on one block. The bigger ones offer the greatest
variety and the greatest show. The waiters virtually fly out of the
kitchen and weave their way from table to table like bees alighting from
blossom to blossom. The set price varies from around $7 to $10 per person.
How safe is Rio? I felt safer than on certain streets in Los Angeles. I
saw no evidence of street crime. I’m not saying it’s a walk in the park,
its prudent to take precautions wherever you go. But I don’t see safety as
a major issue in Rio de Janeiro. Every beach I visited was immaculately
clean and safe.
ACCOMODATIONS
The plush new J.W. Marriott Hotel is situated right on Copacabana Beach! I
liked the 24-hour penthouse gym facilities. They have a trainer on call
around-the-clock to help you maintain your workout regimen. There’s also a
magnificent open-air pool in the penthouse as well as steam and sauna. You
can have a massage there, or on the beach. Marriott stakes out a stretch
of the beach for their guests complete with beach towels, lounge chairs
and umbrellas, as well as “room” service. The beautiful in-house
restaurant faces the pounding surf.
